The install Malarkey wrote up started as a pre-winter checkup, not a sales call. The drone survey documented it, the insurance claim proceeded from that documentation, and we replaced the roof with Malarkey Vista, a polymer-modified shingle whose rubberized asphalt is built to flex under impact instead of cracking. At around 73 squares it was a large residential roof, and the schedule goal was simple: fully installed, flashed, and sealed before the first real snowstorm. We hit it. We source Malarkey product through MacArthur Company in Columbia Falls, so material lead times on the east side of the valley are short.
Lakeside geography, from the village to Eagle Bend
Montana Highway 35 runs straight through Bigfork and then traces the east shore of Flathead Lake south toward Polson, and most of the town's housing hangs off that spine. The village core and the hillsides above the bay hold older cottages and custom homes on tight, treed lots where falling limbs and needle load are a bigger enemy than wind. North and west of town, the Eagle Bend area that grew up around the golf course since the early 1980s, along with Harbor Village and Lake Pointe near the river and the yacht harbor, runs to larger custom homes with complex rooflines, and those valleys and dead valleys are where we focus inspection time. Proximity to that much open water also means Bigfork sees freeze-thaw swings all winter; the lake moderates the deep cold, which sounds gentle but actually drives more melt-refreeze cycles at the eaves than a consistently frozen January would.
